BUTTERWORTH: The Malaysian Hindu Sangam has appealed to the Penang state government to ban the sale of alcohol in the vicinity of areas where the Thaipusam festival is celebrated on Tuesday.
The association's state chairman G. Shanmuganathan said the government had the authority to do so through the Penang Hindu Endowment Board, to prevent any untoward incidents during the celebration and ensure peace and harmony throughout the day.
