Hua Zong welcomes waiver of 80% funding rule for construction projects

The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) welcomed the Cabinet's move to waive the requirement for Chinese schools to obtain 80% of the funding before any construction project can be started. Its president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah said this would allow the schools to start the projects and to raise funds at the same time. Pheng added that it was difficult for the schools to raise 80% of the projects in a short period of time. On Wednesday, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said Chinese schools would no longer need to raise a minimum of 80% of funds for their construction projects before applying for Education Ministry approval to start the projects. Dr Wee said the Cabinet had decided to scrap the rule, adding that the condition was "unnecessary and unreasonable".
