Teenage couple charged with baby dumping

Two secondary school students, both aged 17, were charged in the Kota Baru Sessions Court Wednesday for dumping a baby boy in July this year. Both accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. According to the charge sheet, the unmarried couple, who are the biological parents of the baby, had abandoned him outside the house of a nurse at 9.45pm on July 2. They are being charged under Section 317 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in jail or fine, or both, if found guilty. They were allowed bail of RM12,000 with one surety and have to report to the police station once a week.
