Cheers to the wave of colours

Malaysians at heart: Teacher assistants of the English department Meagan Lim and K. Malini Devi (first and second from left) and English department head Tan Choon Moi (third from right) - posing with students from the Merdeka Day project committee. All are wearing their Anak-Anak Malaysia wristband.

THE hundreds of flags that lined the corridors of Chong Hwa Independent High School gave a strong hint that something exciting was brewing within. And sure enough, visitors who walked into the administration block were wowed by the set-up for the school’s Raise The Flag campaign.

In the middle of the well thought-out exhibition space stood a cardboard image of Father of Independence Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. The Tunku was depicted in that most famous of poses, when he punched the air with his fist and chanted “Merdeka!” seven times in Stadium Merdeka 60 years ago.
