Job, social network for foreign grads

THE International Alumni Job Network is an employment group focused on career outcomes for international students who have graduated from Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, European and United States’ higher education institutes who are looking to connect with each other and for employment opportunities across Asia.

The network is an employment site but one that is exclusive to international students who have studied at an international higher education institute.

Shane Dillon had the idea for the network after meeting a young international graduate of Australia who had returned from studying overseas but was feeling a sense of dislocation and that he was unable to leverage his education into a suitable job.

“I thought there must be thousands of graduates in the same position every year,” he said.

Dillon who works in the insurance industry and has a regional business development role across Asia, subsequently founded the International Alumni Job Network with Kate Harden. Harden is the CEO and runs the company full time.

Dillon’s hunch proved right as the alumni network has had nearly 20,000 alumni join in the first few months and has engaged with over 60 employer groups across Asia.

“The initial feedback from both alumni and employers has been amazing and we are on track to reach 100,000 by the end of the year,” said Dillon.

“Currently our largest alumni community is from Malaysia followed by Vietnam, Indonesia, China/Hong Kong and India,” he said.

On how graduates can become a part of the network, Dillon said they register on one of the alumni sites based on where they have completed their studies.

“We have six community websites where alumni can communicate through forums, learn about upcoming networking and career events and connect with mentor programmes,” he said.

These are for Australia, United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada and Europe.

“What makes us unique is that we are also a social network so alumni can connect with one another, learn about future study and professional development opportunities including scholarships and also connect with mentors and attend exclusive alumni networking events across Asia,” he said.
