Oh my!: Cast members raring to go for the new semester.

FANS of Oh My English! can rejoice as the third season of the beloved series is just around the corner.

In this new semester the students of SMK Ayer Dalam are a year older and wiser.

“They are a little more helpful in the classroom but they are still up to their old tricks,” said Zain Saidin, who plays English teacher Mr Henry Middleton on the show.

Zain and the rest of the cast were at the launch of Season Three held at SMK Seri Kembangan, Selangor on Thursday.

Adventures this time around will include a FIFA World Cup episode and even a Merdeka Day episode where characters will travel back in time to the year of Malaysia’s independence.

Original characters Jibam (Akhmal Nazri), See Yew Soon (Roax Tan), Mazlee (Md Zhafir Muzani Mohamad), Anusha (Kaameshaa Ravindran) and Cikgu Ayu (Tiz Zaqyah) will be joined by a slew of fresh faces this season.

Industry veterans Fauziah Ahmad Daud, Nadiya Nisaa, Carmen Soo and Rahim R2 combine with upcoming talents Amyra Rosli, Shafiq Kyle, Juzzthin and Sherry Alhadad to bring new flavour to the show.

“My new favourite character is Jojie, the new Malay student. And Nadiya who plays her really brings the character to life so well. It’s so fun to watch,” said Kaameshaa.

Viewers can also expect a number of cameos and special appearances from popular local stars throughout the 23-episode season, including Faizal Hussein, Hans Isaac, Rashidi Ishak, Waris and Bront Palarae.

The show, which has also produced two telemovie spinoffs, garnered 5.2 million views in its last season and has an immense social media presence, with 616,000 Facebook fans and 82,000 Twitter followers.

Its popularity is rooted in its commitment to being an educational aid that is at the same time approachable and humourous.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap who was present at the launch, praised the show for becoming a household name with the Malaysian youth.

Oh My English! is a truly exciting and entertaining way of getting our students to learn English outside of the classroom,” she said.

She encouraged young Malaysians to watch the show so as to improve their communication skills in both written and spoken English.

Astro vice president of the GenNext Business Putri Yasmin Megat Zaharuddin said she hoped viewers would enjoy watching season three with all the new surprises and twists in store.

“As with previous seasons, this one will not only include humourous and educational elements but also positive values for our young viewers to emulate,” she said.

Oh My English! returns every Sunday starting May 18 at 9pm exclusively on Astro TVIQ (Channel 610).

A special episode of “Behind The Scenes” of the new season will be screened at 9pm tonight on Astro TVIQ (Channel 610).
