Life after boring underground

Waiko Engineering will be building another of these giant structures to provide shelter for the TBMs that are being refurbished at its facility near Ipoh.

Excavation work for tunnels of Line 1 of the Klang Valley MRT is drawing to a close, and with that, another door is opened for Malaysians seeking to upskill themselves.

A few dozen Malaysians will have the opportunity to learn maintenance and refurbishment of complicated tunnel boring machines (TBMs), each more than 100m long and weigh several hundred tonnes when fully assembled and ready to work.
