THE Perak government aims to provide high speed Internet broadband services to more areas in its bid to ensure more people in the state can stay well connected.
State Public Utilities, Infrastructure, Energy and Water Committee chairman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin said efforts are being conducted to reach out to more areas to provide fast Internet connectivity to the people.
“At Hilir Perak, we hope to have faster connectivity there by 2016.
“Telekom Malaysia is targeting areas with a high population and will continue with the efforts to provide the services to more people,” he said after the service agreement signing ceremony between Telekom Malaysia Bhd Perak general manager Badrul Hisham Bahari and Emerald Capital Group business development director Yau Kean Leong to provide high speed broadband services for the developer’s D’Festivo Residences condominium project in Ipoh recently.
Zainol Fadzi, however, noted that upgrading of infrastructure to provide high speed broadband services in areas with existing Internet connectivity was being hampered due to the high cost involved.
“Most areas are currently having the connection speed of 4MBps.
“The cost of upgrading the infrastructure is high but we encourage the penetration of broadband connectivity in new areas,” he said.
Yau said the agreement would enable property owners at the 240-unit condominium to enjoy high speed broadband connectivity of up to 20MBps upon moving in.
He said the condominium project was the first in Ipoh to be ready with Unifi infrastructure.
