Mohamad Noor: The MIM is in line with the Olympic spirit to build a peaceful and better world.
AS PART of its 60th anniversary celebrations, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) will be organising the Malaysian International Marathon (MIM) in Penang.
The MIM will be held at the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge on March 22.
OCM has teamed up with the Malaysian Athletic Federation (MAF) and Mega Visual to make the event an exciting and interesting one.
The Works Ministry has also endorsed the MIM, which will help put Malaysia on the world marathon map.
The organisers will start a promotion campaign to get international marathon runners to be part of the MIM.
OCM deputy president Tan Sri Mohamad Noor Rahim, who is the organising chairman, said the MIM, which is offering a total prize money of RM600,000, was not just another event.
“It is a run to unite Malaysians across race, gender and age. We are calling all Malaysians, including those residing overseas, to support this event, which has historical meaning to OCM.
“The MIM is in line with the Olympic spirit to build a peaceful and better world, in line with Pierre de Coubertin’s statement: ‘The important thing is not to win but to take part’. MIM will also be an excellent platform to promote Malaysia as a tourist destination,” said Mohamad Noor.
The organisers are also getting international recognition and endorsement from the International Aassociation of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
Mohamad Noor said they would also be working with the relevant authorities to make the event a success.
