MORE than RM150,000 was raised during the Miss Malaysia Tourism Pageant 2014 Charity Gala Dinner held in Dorsett Grand Subang recently.
The dinner was organised with the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya (RCPJ) as part of Dorsett Grand Subang’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
“I would like to thank all who came forward with donations as no matter the amount, it is appreciated.
“I assure you that RCPJ will put each and every sen donated to foster better living for the underprivileged,” said Datuk Seri Dr N. Krishna Moorthy.
He was joined by Miss Malaysia Tourism pageant organiser D’Touch International president Tan Sri Danny Ooi, Dorsett Grand Subang area general manager Hugo Gerritsen and Tourism Malaysia deputy director-general Datuk Azizan Noordin.
“I’m proud to see all gathered here for a good cause.
“I hope RCPJ will keep up its good work and continue doing good for the community,” said Azizan.
All funds collected will be channelled towards non-profit organisations and community services in Petaling Jaya.
Among them are National Kidney Foundation, Supermom Bakery in Taman Megah, the Petaling Jaya library, underprivileged students and young terminally-ill patients.
“I’m sure this contribution will make a change in the lives of those who really need it,” said Gerritsen.
To make the dinner more lively, the top 18 finalists in the Miss Malaysia Tourism pageant 2014 entertained the crowd with a talent show.
Most of them sang while some danced and performed cultural performances.
“I’m glad to see these finalists doing charity work.
“This can expose the girls to more charity and help nurture a caring society,” said Ooi.
He added that the dinner was in line with the Miss Malaysia Tourism theme for the year, “Because We Care”.
At the end of the event, contestant number 14, Ranjani Rajamanickam
was crowned Miss Charity 2014
based on her passion, humanity and kindness.
The Miss Malaysia Tourism grand finale will be happening on Aug 23.
