SOME 100,000 residents living in PJS3 battle heavy traffic during peak hours because their residential roads are used as a route to bypass tolls.
Residents of Taman Sri Manja and Taman Medan in PJS3 are among the hardest hit by the traffic woes.
Taman Medan Rukun Tetangga secretary ThavaKumar Sellan said motorists had been using the residential roads to avoid the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) toll near Bandar Sunway.
In recent years, a large number of motorists from Jalan Kelang Lama heading to Puchong and towards the Kesas highway have also been using the PJS3 neighbourhood roads.
“This has led to a surge in vehicles in the high-density neighbourhood, causing bumper-to-bumper jams during the morning and evening rush hours.
“Sometimes, we spend more than an hour to get out of our housing area and it is worst in the evening,” he said.
ThavaKumar said an incomplete link next to Pangsapuri Desa Sepakat, Taman Medan, could be completed by cutting through a plot of vacant land nearby to head towards Puchong.
“We heard the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) may pass this area.
“We hope that if the highway were built, it would divert some of the vehicles from our neighbourhood,” he said.
Kidex Sdn Bhd confirmed with StarMetro that the highway would pass the Taman Sri Manja neighbourhood.
Based on a statement from Kidex, Jalan PJS1/25 and Jalan PJS 3/40 are currently being used as a main connection for motorists from Petaling Jaya, Jalan Kelang Lama and New Pantai Expressway to access Kesas, Puchong and Kinrara, and vice-versa, leading to congestion on these roads.
Once Kidex is ready, the existing traffic from Petaling Jaya to Kinrara will be transferred to Kidex.
It will alleviate the congestion on Jalan PJS3/40 and Jalan PJS1/25.
It is estimated that the traffic will reduce by 18% in Jalan PJS 3/40 and 39% in Jalan PJS1/25 in 2018 once Kidex is open.
Based on the statement, the reduction of congestion at these roads will be beneficial to residents in Taman Medan, Taman Sri Manja and Taman Dato Harun.
