KUCHING: Visitors to Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof’s Hari Raya open house attended a special tahlil session to remember the victims of MH17 and MH370.
Fadillah said the prayers were held as a mark of respect for those who perished in the tragedies.
“At the same time, we pray that our nation will remain safe from disasters. This is our hope,” he told reporters when met after the prayers at his residence at Jalan Bakti, Semariang, yesterday.
He said Federal Cabinet members did not hold official Raya open house events this year out of sympathy for the victims and their families.
“However, at individual level the ministers can have open house in their respective constituencies as this is a time for us to meet the people and exchange ideas.
“What we have done this year is to combine it with the tahlil and doa selamat,” he said.
The Petra Jaya MP also expressed his hope that Malaysia would continue to be a nation where the people lived in peace and harmony, with close ties between different races and religions.
“This is the source of our nation’s strength,” he added.
Among those who visited the Works
Minister were Infrastructure Development and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin, SUPP secretary-general
Prof Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and other party leaders and a group of imams from Saudi Arabia.
