TEMERLOH: Stalls selling seasonal local fruits will be set up by Fama in Genting Sempah rest area for two weeks in conjunction with the festive season.
Pahang Fama director Ibrahim Mahmood said due to the high volume of motorists using the stretch back to their hometowns, sales were expected to be brisk.
“We are targeting to sell at least 50 metric tonnes of fruits during this period.
“Among the fruits available are durian, mangosteen and jackfruit,” he said after visiting the Ramadan bazaar in Temerloh rest area here.
Also present was East Coast Highway concessionaire Anih Berhad senior executive Zaimawar Mohd Sah.
Ibrahim said the initiative was mooted in line with Fama’s efforts to promote consumption of local fruits.
He said the co-operation saw Anih Berhad allocating the lots while Fama getting interested traders to take part.
“The supply of fruits will be obtained directly from nearby orchards.
“If the response is good, the stalls could be retained permanently,” he said.
On the bazaar, Ibrahim said 12 local entrepreneurs were selected to market their products to hypermarkets.
He said for the past four years, it had achieved a volume of sales between RM273,000 and RM1.3mil.
“This is a good start for local small and medium industry and hope its products can penetrate other markets,” he said.
