FOODPANDA Malaysia, the food ordering and delivery service, has set a target of adding 500 more restaurants in its second year of operations.
From 580 restaurants currently in peninsular Malaysia, Foodpanda expects to have 1,000 restaurants in its network by year-end and 5,000 restaurants by 2016.
“Every time a new chain joins us, we see a spike in orders. Our customers are ordering more because more choices are available.
“A total of 50% of our food orders now come from our mobile app.
“With the increased use of smartphones, the business is expected to grow,” said Foodpanda Malaysia managing director Claudio Abitante.
Foodpanda has established a presence in major cities around peninsular Malaysia such as Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Penang, Ipoh, Malacca and Johor Baru.
Currently, the company is also looking towards expanding to Sabah and Sarawak by the end of 2015.
Foodpanda aims to be the biggest food delivery service in Malaysia.
Among the major restaurants under Foodpanda’s delivery service are Din Tai Fung, Kenny Rogers Roasters, Wendy’s, Starbucks, Gongcha, Chatime and Tony Roma’s.
“We are confident of revolutionising the food ordering and delivery service especially now that it can be done conveniently using our mobile app,” said Abitante.
Foodpanda charges a delivery service but sometimes it is complimentary when ordering from selected restaurants.
The company is also collaborating with 7-Eleven in offering delivery service of snacks, beverages and even prepaid reload cards to customers.
