CIVIL servants who fulfilled the requirements to purchase the Larai Apartments built under the 1Malaysia Civil Servants’ Housing Programme (PPA1M) had their names drawn at a balloting session for the 1,680 units recently.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat were present to witness and conduct the initial draw for the apartments that will be located in Precinct 6, Putrajaya.
The balloting for the Larai Apartments marks the fourth session under PPA1M Putrajaya.
“The future residents of Larai Apartments are lucky because the units are located near the Putrajaya Maritime Centre, Putrajaya International Convention Centre and several parks,” said Aseh.
“The PPA1M scheme was one of the most frequently asked questions during townhall meetings with residents,” said Tengku Adnan, who is also Putrajaya MP.
“I have assured civil servants that after their applications are submitted and filtered, those who fulfil the requirements will most likely get to purchase a PPA1M unit.”
The PPA1M was one of the efforts undertaken by the Government to help civil servants own affordable and quality houses.
The Prime Minister had announced that 10,639 PPA1M units would be built in Putrajaya under Phase One of the programme, which is expected to be fully completed in 2017.
The price offered for this housing scheme ranges from RM150,000 to RM300,000, with a total floor area of 1,000sq ft, 1,200sq ft and 1,500sq ft for three pre-determined sizes.
A total of 10,020 applicants whose household income did not exceed RM8,000 a month qualified for the programme.
PPj serves as the coordinator for PPA1M Putrajaya, including planning, selling, selecting buyers and ensuring maintenance.
Earlier, PPj had held three balloting sessions, for which 3,492 civil servants successfully qualified for PPA1M units located in Precinct 17 (Selasih), Precinct 11 (Palma), Precinct 5 (Seruling), Precinct 16 (Jintan) and Precinct 11 (Melinjau).
The Chief Secretary to the Government had also said PPA1M’s target was to build 100,000 units of affordable houses for civil servants nationwide within the next five years.
Larai Apartments will be built by Protasco Development Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Protasco Berhad.
The 1,680 apartment units will be built across four blocks on a 17.7 acre (7.2ha) piece of land.
The ground-breaking ceremony was held in December 2013 and the project is expected to be completed within two-and-a-half years.
According to Protasco Development managing director Kenny Chong, the development would offer facilities such as three playgrounds, a common recreational area, sepak takraw and futsal courts, surau, a kindergarten and nursery, and a multipurpose hall.
Aseh later said PPj had commenced planning for Phase Two of PPA1M Putrajaya.
“Besides the apartments that are between 1,000sq ft and 1,500sq ft in size, Phase Two will also include smaller units and landed properties such as semi-detached houses to provide a greater variety of residences for civil servants ranging from support staff to senior officials.
“Meanwhile, commercial construction projects will be handled by Putrajaya Holdings,” he added.
