State-of-the-art equipment: Assunta Hospital radiographers preparing a patient for a heart scan procedure with the 64 multi-slice Computerised Tomographic (CT) Scanner.
This year as it celebrates its 60th anniversary, Assunta Hospital in Jalan Templer, Petaling Jaya has continued to live up to its standards, offering the best quality and affordable healthcare services to the community.
From a humble maternity centre, Assunta has evolved into a 336-bedded, technologically advanced, tertiary healthcare full-serviced hospital.
Assunta Hospital chief medical services officer and person in charge Dr Lourdes Dava Raj said the hospital had a panel of more than 80 renowned locally and internationally-trained specialists, covering a wide range of specialties and subspecialties such as Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Radiology, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Urology, Dermatology, Haematology, Oncology, Ophthalmology and Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, among others.
“Patients are in safe hands in a hospital that offers all major specialties, subspecialties and numerous additional niche services using cutting-edge medical technologies and techniques,” Dr Lourdes said during an interview at the hospital.
“Through recommendations and medical referrals, Assunta has become the preferred choice for patients, who return due to its affordable and advanced care in medicine.
“Our niche services include Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Orthopaedics. We have a full range of Orthopaedic Consultants, who are well-versed with the latest technology like spine surgery, joint surgery, sports injuries, screening and management of osteoporosis and hand and microsurgery,” he said, adding that another addition to its services is the Heart Centre, which provides a full range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac services and open heart surgery.
Dr Lourdes said the hospital would be introducing its Geriatrics service next month to treat the various conditions suffered by those above 65 years and above.
He explained this was primarily due to the fact that the hospital has a growing number of aging patients.
Apart from its Day Care Oncology Centre, which has been expanded to a larger room from the previous three-bedded room, its General Surgery services have been further upgraded with the introduction of Laser Haemorrhoidectomy and Laser Ablation of varicose veins.
Assunta houses sophisticated medical systems for diagnostics and therapies, which include a Computerised Tomographic (CT) Scanner, a Cardiac Cathetherisation Laboratory and a Magnetic Resonance Imager (MRI).
Assunta chief executive officer and board chairman Peter Leong said that in order to keep up with the changing times and customer expectations, the hospital has embarked on a journey of transformation with the refurbishment and renovation of the hospital’s infrastructure. It is currently upgrading its Maternity Ward, Nursery, Kidney Unit, Oncology Unit and several other new wards.
With the state-of-the-art facilities and services, Dr Lourdes said the hospital believes that the only way to continuously serve the community is by organising public talks and health campaigns to create awareness on the various life-threatening diseases as well as to share on the common health-related issues of various specialties.
“Medical workshops and symposiums with general practitioners are regularly held to encourage collaborative patient care and management through networking and sharing of knowledge on new medical best practices. This is to improve the delivery of healthcare services to the public,” he added.
