Sarawak community leaders advised to learn English language

KUCHING: Community leaders in Sarawak must be able to speak English and be computer literate as part of their job scope, said Sarawak legislative assembly deputy speaker Datuk Roland Sagah.

He said the reason for the government to provide 1Malaysia laptops to every community leaders was to enable them to do their work effectively, including planning development projects in their respective villages and for correpondence.

“All village heads also need to know how to speak English because this will help them a lot in discharging their duties as well as able to communicate with foreign tourists coming to their village,” he said at the presentation of appointment letters to 58 community leaders here yesterday.

Hence, he advised those village chief who still could not communicate in English to attend English language courses besides being computer literate.

Sagah, who is state assembly- man for Tarat, also advised all community leaders to work closely with Barisan Nasional (BN) elected representatives in the implementation of projects. — Bernama
