TELUK Intan has the potential to become a commercial centre and attract investors.

Gerakan President Datuk Mah Siew Keong said it was his vision to see Hilir Perak, which encompassed the southern region of the state developed and the standard of living of the people improved.

“In a few days, I will let the people know of my plans for Teluk Intan.

“Together with Bagan Datoh and Pasir Salak, the constituency can become an important commercial centre,” he said after a walkabout at the Pasir Bedamar market here on Wednesday.

He added that development of Teluk Intan was what the people desired.

“I have been here all my life. I was born and got married here,” he said.

“I know the problems and what the people want,” he added.

On an accusation that he could get into Parliament via a senatorship even if he loses, Mah said it was not true.

“What I know is that we will not be appointed as a senator if we lose. I urge the Opposition to stop playing up this issue.

“Just focus on telling people plans to develop the country, and Teluk Intan, he said.

“Over the next few days, during the ceramah, we will clarify facts on several issues, including the GST, that have been twisted by the Pakatan Rakyat,” he added.

Mah also shot down another accusation that he would stop serving the people if he wins as he was from a rich family.

“I am not rich, maybe my relatives are.

“People should see my track record.

“Gerakan has helped about 3,000 poor people here get welfare aid,” Mah said.

“People need to differentiate between mere words and actions,” he added.
