A total of 45 officers has successfully completed a course of leadership and management for Relasis in Malacca.
MALACCA: Membership of Malaysian Paramilitary Civil Volunteer Corps (Rela) has hit 2.97 million, throughout the country where some 70% are youths.
Rela director-general, Datuk Mustafa Ibrahim said the figure was expected to increase at the end of 2014 with the launch of Briged RelaSiswa-Siswi (Relasis) involving 33 polytechnics nationwide.
The brigade was established with the cooperation of the Polytechnic Studies Department (JPP).
He said 10 polytechnics had established Briged RELASIS to provide more choice for students participating in extra-curricular activities.
“The establishment of Briged Relasis is aimed at upgrading the skills, instil patriotism and encourage the spirit of camaraderie and volunteerism between the students and the community.
“Briged Relasis can also help curb negative social activitiesprevalent among youths,” he said after the launch of Briged Relasis Politeknik Malaysia at Sungai Udang on Monday.
Mustafa said that all members of the brigade will be trained to value the core of 5K 1P concept namely emphasising on security, peace harmony and unity.
He also noted also that Rela’s Twitter account had also received overwhelming response with 550,000 followers on its site.
Earlier, Mustafa and JPP director-general Datuk Mokhlis Jaafar signed the Briged Relasis Note of Understanding between Rela and the JPP.
