RESIDENTS affected in Phase 1 of the scheduled water rationing are now getting daily water supply.
This is because the water is safe to consume now that the ammonia content at Sungai Langat had reduced following the recent downpour.
A National Water Services Commission (SPAN) spokesman, however, said the daily supply of water was conditional as it would depend on the content of ammonia in the river water.
“Water supply is back to normal for those falling under Phase 1 of the schedule, but the water quality is being closely monitored.
“In case the ammonia content increases, the water rationing will resume once more,” she said.
The two water treatment plants at Cheras Batu 11 and Bukit Tampoi were back in operation on March 17 and March 19 respectively.
Previously, areas in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang were on water rationing since Feb 27.
The water treatment plants were closed in late January after high levels of ammonia were found in the water.
For areas under Phase 3 of the water rationing schedule, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) confirmed it would continue until March 31.
Phase 3 comprises the Gombak and Petaling districts, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang and Shah Alam.
It was previously reported that the water levels at four of seven water treatment plants in Selangor were still below 70% with Sungai Selangor being at a critical level.
Reports on the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) website stated that the water level at the Klang Gates had reduced from 51.3% on March 18 to 51.1% on March 21.
The levels at other dams are 66.68% at Sungai Tinggi, 55.61% at Langat and 38.46% at Sungai Selangor.
The water levels at three dams — Batu, Semenyih and Tasik Subang — are above 70% as of March 21.
