JOHOR BARU: A handwritten letter by former Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar student Royal Professor Ungku Aziz Ungku Abd Hamid is expected to be unveiled during the school centenary celebration.
The school, better known as English College (EC), will be marking its 100th year anniversary today and have come up with a list of events to commemorate the school historic occasion.
Its principal Samsudin Md Ariff said among the events included opening a time capsule which contained a letter written by Prof Ungku Aziz some 30 years ago.
“The time capsule was untouched throughout this period and only he (Ungku Aziz) knows the contents in the the letter.
“All of us including the former and current batch of students are looking forward to the letter,” he said when met after launching the school’s 100-hour countdown to mark EC anniversary recently.
He pointed out that Ungku Aziz’s daughter Bank Negara Governor Tan Sri Dr Zetti Akhtar Aziz, a former EC student, would read out the letter.
Samsudin also said that Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, who was also a former student, would launch the celebration and unveil the college’s landmark.
He also said Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin, another old boy of the college, would be launching a book on EC 100th anniversary today.
“EC has a very proud history and the school has nurtured leaders either in the political world or in the business field and each one of them have become successful,” he said.
Among EC former students were the country’s third Prime Minister Tun Hussein Onn and former Deputy Prime Minister Tun Musa Hitam.
