IT has been said that youth is wasted on the young but Summer Liew is testament that being young is no barrier to achieving her dreams.
The 20-year-old is confident in front of the camera and is determined to succeed in her field of choice, despite modelling from the age of 18.
Currently studying at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus, Summer decided to join a modelling competition on a whim and strolled into the finals.
From then on, the mass communications student, who is majoring in broadcasting, was encouraged to join more competitions.
“Modelling is part of my interest — I enjoy the attention and the work,” said Summer, adding that she would consider working behind the scenes in the media industry in the future.
Many of her friends are photographers and Summer goes out and models for them, from time to time.
“I also have many friends who do freelance modelling,” said Summer.
No industry is bereft of its challenges and Summer faces a few of her own.
Not many beauty talents wear braces and as a young model, Summer believes that wearing them affects her work.
Despite having some metal in her mouth, Summer has come a long way by becoming a finalist in several modelling and pageant competitions.
The industry may sometimes be harsh when it comes to one’s figure and the Penangite also sees that as another challenge.
“I am not the tallest or the fittest, but I join competitions to prove to myself and to my parents that I can succeed,” she said.
Her recent hobby includes playing online games.
