For luck: VIP’s tossing yee sang for another bountiful year ahead.
MALACCA: As the Chinese community welcomed the year of the Wooden Horse, they must adapt accordingly to the changes to the environment around them.
They should keep living and working with other communities in the spirit of 1Malaysia, the spirit of peace, tolerance and harmony.
Speaking at the Sam Tiong Keng Temple Chinese New Year gathering and dinner at the Pay Fong High School hall in Jalan Tan Chay Yan, here, the temple chairman Datuk Yang Chien Chu said that Malaysia is blessed with ethnic groups that have lived in peace and harmony over the years.
“Malaysians accepted the respective traditional and cultural values of the different races.
“The harmonious scene in witnessing the other races participating in each others celebrations and festivals is something unique,” said Yang adding that the community must continue working with the state government to enable the nation to prosper with more developments and progress.
Event’s organising chairman Datuk Gary Tan Kang Yong in thanking the presence of so many well wishers and supporters, reaffirmed that the temple will continue to organize prayer sessions, medium consultation and charitable projects to bring joy and comfort to the devotees.
Gary said that as the community relished the Lunar New Year, they should always remember the less fortunate people in the state.
As such the temple donated a sum of RM5,000 to the Pay Fong High School Building and Welfare Fund and RM1,000 each to Meng Seng Charitable Association, St John Ambulance Bachang Haemodialysis Centre and the Seck Kia Eenh Buddhist Cancer Fund.
Present to grace the auspicious occasion included Malcca Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industries chairman Tan Poh Seng, Datuk Wira Soon Tian Szu as the Malacca Combined Chinese Temples Association chairman and a host of other VIPs. The presence of eight prancing lions with two Chai ins (God of Prosperity), one dressed like a puppet and the other one in colourful traditional costume brought a lot of cheer and applause.
