PRODUCT design and development have been made easy with a rapid model development laboratory at Penang Skills Development Corporation (PSDC).
The 1,500sq ft PSDC-IME Rapid Model Development Lab was funded by IME Technology Sdn Bhd and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and revolutionary technologies to serve industrial needs.
IME Group managing director Teoh Tuan Ka said 10 companies had used the lab since it was launched on Nov 15 last year.
“The lab provides one-stop solutions in product design and deve-lopment.
“Its services include concept modelling, industrial design, mechanical engineering, ergono-mic analysis, design validation and simulation, rapid prototyping, 3D scanning and quality inspection,” he told a press conference at PSDC in Bayan Baru, Penang, recently.
He added that production support such as tool design could also be done at the lab.
Teoh said IME managed the lab and provided training for companies that wanted to use the lab.
“We also customise products for individuals.
“They can share their concept with us and we can build up a 3D physical prototype based on the concept,” Teoh said.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the 3D design and development industry was growing steadily.
“The industry provides a platform which allows specialisation and customisation,” he said.
Lim said the lab was able to serve the needs of industries such as aerospace, automotive, architecture, business machines, consumer products, electronics, entertainment, industrial equipment, inte-rior design, medical devices, oil and gas, and toy manufacturing.
