VISITORS to the annual flower show Floria Putrajaya will be charged an entrance fee this year.
Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat said this during the annual flower show’s permanent location launching ceremony yesterday.
However, he said PPj has yet to decide on the rates.
“We are still deciding and will announce the rates closer to the event,” he said, adding that it could range between RM1 and RM2.
Aseh said PPj had received numerous enquiries from foreign tourists about the entrance fees.
“If the event is free, it may give the impression that the show is not worth visiting. Imposing fees will create interest,” he said.
However, the announcement contradicts his statement at last year’s Floria, where he had said PPj would only impose entrance fees when the show became as popular as the Chelsea Flower Show in London.
The new and permanent location for Floria is along the lakeside in Precint 4.
“The permanent location will save cost, as basic facilities will be in place,” said Aseh.
The 11.7ha location will be developed in March for this year’s Floria.
Meanwhile, work to design the site, which includes building a multi-purpose pavilion, a parking lot, a lakeside cafe, a courtyard and Taman Sisiran, will begin at the end of the year, after the Economic Planning Unit allocates the budget for PPj.
The site will not only host Floria but will also be a flower garden throughout the year, becoming another tourist attraction in Putrajaya.
The official mascots for Floria, Flo and Rio, were also unveiled during the event to reflect the objective of Floria as an iconic event in Putrajaya.
Flo’s green hair illustrates the image of leaves, an integral element of a flower showcase and Rio’s flower headgear symbolises the thematic element of the show, which are flowers.
This year’s Floria Putrajaya will be held from June 14 to 22, from 9am to 10.30pm (Monday to Thursday) and from 9am to midnight (Friday to Sunday).
