Festive treat: A crowd watching a lion dance performance at The Spring in Kuching on Friday.
KUCHING: The Spring shopping mall here will be extending its operating hours to 11pm on Jan 28 and 29 as the Chinese New Year approaches.
There will also be daily lion and dragon dance performances featuring the Chinese Martial Art Association and the “24 Festive Drums” by Chung Hua Middle School No 1.
The mall’s theme for this Chinese New Year is “The Great Wall of China”, which was launched on Friday.
“You don’t have to go to China to see the Great Wall, just come to The Spring,” quipped Kuching City South Council mayor Datuk James Chan during the launching ceremony.
“The mall has firmly established itself as a great place to shop. Since its opening in 2008, the mall has provided the people and visitors to Sarawak a shopping experience as good as any in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. The Spring has blossomed,” Chan said.
Chinese New Year is a time of reunions and gatherings, the mayor said, adding that the retail experience was part of the festive season.
The “God of Fortune” will also be making special appearances.
“Shoppers who spend RM150 and above on a single receipt are elibigle to redeem ‘ang pow’ packets from the customer service counter, said the mall in a statement.
