The Selangor Hockey League 2013 Division Two finals will see a battle of youth against the veterans as X-Matrix takes on Synergy at 8.30pm today at the Education Ministry Stadium in Jalan Pantai.
X-Matrix finished third in the 2012 edition in Division Two and will be looking to capture the title and earn promotion to Division One. In the semis X-Matrix came back from a one-goal deficit to down the favorites Selangor Sikh Association (SSA) 2-1, to booking their spot in the final.
This young energetic side playing flowing hockey has been consistently performing in the league. They will be relying on their top scorer Mohd Harfizi Baharom to bag the goals while team Captain Fawwaz Amir Kamaruddin will be marshaling the X-Matrix defence.
For Synergy, a social hockey club based in Klang, this will be their first final appearance. Synergy edged out SMKUSJ23-KTG in the semis 2-1 in a pulsating match. Synergy will go into the finals as underdogs.
The team, whose average age of players is 38 years, has three players in its squad over 50 years old, with school teacher Periasamy Karuppan the oldest at 56. SHC will be banking on the experiences of captain Sri Muhunan and other senior players to overcome X-Matrix.
In the third and fourth placing match SMKUSJ23-KTG will take on Selangor Sikh Association at 7.00pm
After the finals, the prize-giving ceremonies for both Division One and Two will be held simultaneously. UiTM emerged champions of Division One as they completed their league campaign undefeated, while last year’s champions KJLJD emerged runners-up and RAMD bagged third place.
