Who’s the murderer?: The show wil lbe staged by British Theatre Playhouse in Kuala Lumpur
FANS of author Agatha Christie are in for a treat as the world’s longest running play, the West End’s production of The Mousetrap, will be staged here from Oct 16 to 20 at the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur auditorium.
John Faulkner, who founded the British Theatre Playhouse with his Malaysian-born wife, Cecilia Leong-Faulkner, is the co-producer of The Mousetrap.
He appeared in the role of “Giles” in the 32nd year of The Mousetrap in the West End, and is delighted to now be playing the role of “Major Metcalf”.
“Seen by more than 10 million people, The Mousetrap is indeed the world’s most famous murder mystery. The play is the world’s longest running production in history, proof of its class and pedigree. The only way to find out why is to see it yourself,” said Faulkner.
Staged in Malaysia for the first time, The Mousetrap is also celebrating its 60th year of performances in the West End.
As part of this Diamond Anniversary celebration, productions are now being staged in every continent around the world and in many different languages.
This British Theatre Playhouse South-East Asia tour of The Mousetrap play will be directed by Denise Silvey and features a cast direct from Britain, including actors from the London West End productions.
The Moustrap is set during the winter of 1952, when seven people are stranded by a snowstorm at Monkswell Manor.
A policeman, Sergeant Trotter, goes to the house to warn them there has been a murder at a nearby farmhouse but, no sooner has he given his warning then, suddenly, an elderly guest is murdered.
There are only six of them remaining, and suddenly those six realise the truth — that one of them is the murderer.
