Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) hosted a Hari Raya open house for more than 50 homeless people from the Pertiwi Soup Kitchen recently.
Held at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the guests enjoyed an array of local delicacies such as lemang, ketupat and rendang.
A group of musicians was also on hand to entertain the crowd with Hari Raya songs played using the traditional bamboo musical instruments called angklung.
“Nothing is more rewarding than to see the joy on their faces. This is the first time we have hosted the homeless.
“We are happy to spread the Raya cheer during this special occasion,” said PAAB chief corporate officer Abdul Hadi Ali.
Also present were PAAB chairman Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli and PAAB chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman.
“We were delighted when PAAB extended the invitation to us, because it is not every day the homeless get to eat good food in a place like this.
“They were so excited when we told them about the open house,” said Pertiwi Soup Kitchen project founder Munirah Abdul Hamid.
The Pertiwi Soup Kitchen project was established in 2010 to provide regular meals to the homeless at various locations around Kuala Lumpur.
The guests also received duit raya and a goodie bag each, which included new clothes.
“I am extremely excited to be here and would like to thank PAAB for making it happen,” said wheelchair-bound guest, Fisol Abdul Rahman, 53.
PAAB also donated RM1,000 to Pertiwi Soup Kitchen.
