INGENIOUS participants breathed new life into a cultural icon, and transformed fabrics steeped in tradition into stylish modern apparel during the Batik Fashion Design Awards at Gurney Plaza in Penang.
The nine finalists each crafted a pair of batik-based outfits — one casual and another elegant — before having models flaunt their creations in a runway show while scores of shoppers looked on.
