Thousands gather along chariot procession route to fulfil Thaipusam vows

GEORGE TOWN: Several streets here were totally covered with smashed coconuts as thousands of devotees converged along the route of the silver chariot procession to fulfil their annual Thaipusam vows.

The 118-year-old chariot bearing an image of Lord Muruga left the Kovil Veedu (temple house) in Penang Street at 6.30am and headed towards the Sri Nattukottai Chettiar Temple in Jalan Kebun Bunga.
