Play golf and raise funds for United Voice

United Voice (UV), a self-advocacy society of persons with learning disabilities is organising a fundraising golf tournament at Kelab Rahman Putra on April 25 to bring golf enthusiasts from all walks of life together for a great time of golfing and networking, whilst supporting a good cause.

The tournament is sponsored by Agromate Holdings Sdn Bhd, a premier supplier of top quality fertilisers to various plantations, especially the Malaysian oil palm, rubber and cocoa plantations, as well as fruit and vegetable farms both locally and overseas.

The tournament aims to raise funds for United Voice to enable the members to buy a shoplot of their own for the expansion of its self advocacy activities and employment project, which currently employs 20 persons with learning disabilities.

UV is the first society led by persons with learning disabilities that is recognised by the Registrar of Societies.

It currently has 95 members and membership is open to persons with learning disabilities above the age of 14, irrespective of colour, creed, race or religion.

UV membership includes persons with Down Syndrome, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, cerebral palsy and global developmental delay.

Through the years, UV has been an advocate to ensure persons with learning disabilities are given the right to be part of the community, to work, to socialise, to contribute and to be respected as individuals.

UV's employment project allows members to make greeting cards, bookmarks, DIY boxes, fridge magnets, festival greeting cards, wedding invitation cards, Saori products (such as coasters, scarfs and keychains) and food products (Omochi and Konyaku Jelly).

This project has generated income for 18 workers who are given a monthly allowance and a yearly bonus. Like full-time workers, they also contribute to EPF and Socso.

UV has also recently collaborated with other NGOs to source full-time employment from private companies for persons with learning disabilities.

The golf tournament will tee-off at 1pm and the participation fee is RM300 per person. The method of play is partnership method.
