Taking in KL sights on the Monorail

THURSDAY last week was a welcome day of rest and relaxation for the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar Theatre Dance Troupe before their highly anticipated gala premiere the following night.

While most of the 54-member troupe decided to de-stress by hitting the shopping malls around the city, eight of them – Rayhngul Abudu, Gulinur Tuersun, Abudu Jielili, Maliya A. Dili, Miribangul Tohti, Gulmira Torgun, Ainijiang Alifu and Abdenazarjan Anwar – opted to take in the sights around Kuala Lumpur by taking a ride on the KL Monorail.

Check it out: (From left) Gulmira Torgun, Maliya A. Dili, Ainijiang Alifu, Gulinur Tuersun, Miribangul Tohti, Rayhngul Abudu and Abdenazarjan Anwar checking out the 'Mystical Steppes: Along the Silk Road' posters that were posted on the clear panels at the Bukit Bintang Monorail Station.
It was their first time riding on a monorail train.

“It was fun; not scary. And it’s very convenient and safe. You also get to see quite a bit of the beautiful city,” said Maliya.

They were joined by MTrans Group communication director Soh Yeh Bee on the 40-minute ride, which included a brief stop at Bukit Bintang Station. Soh took time to point out the places of interest near the Monorail stations, such as Chinatown, Chan Yong Sin Temple, Chinese Assembly Hall, Pudu Jail, Berjaya Times Square, Sungei Wang Plaza, Hard Rock Cafe, KL Tower and Chow Kit.

Mystical Steppes, a kaleidoscope of music and dances from the Xinjiang region of western China, was presented by The Star and Osim (M) Sdn Bhd, and supported by the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry.

The show was held at the KL Convention Centre from Jan 26 to 28.
