Xinjiang Monday January 29, 2007 It’s a full house on final day KUALA LUMPUR: The last day of Mystical Steppes: Along the Silk Road saw a full house at the KL Convention Centre. Among those present were Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Datin Seri Wendy Ong, wife of Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn and wife Datin Seri Tan Lay Hwa, and Malacca Governor Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob and wife Toh Puan Zurina Kassim. During the intermission, the VIPs received Uyghur hats as souvenirs from the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar Theatre performers. Earlier, 40 students from Rumah Bakti Hulu Klang managed to catch the afternoon show, courtesy of The Star.
“I would like to say a big thank you to The Star for sponsoring our tickets,” she said. Also at the show were 20 old folks and 40 children from homes run by Ti-Ratana Welfare Society. Resident Quek Chit Neo, 77, said she loved everything about the show. “I loved the sparkling colours of their costumes. I loved their singing and their acting. I loved it all,” she said. Loo Fredrinne, 14, said her favourite dances were the Five Colourful Shoes and Exotic Arab Snake Dance. “It was so amusing and colourful, and I enjoyed the show very much,” she said. Their tickets were sponsored by Gamuda Land. Students from the Montfort Boys Home in Shah Alam and members of the Malaysian Federation of the Deaf were also present. Mystical Steppes is a kaleidoscope of music and dances from the Xinjiang region of western China, and was presented by The Star and Osim (M) Sdn Bhd, and supported by the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry. The official partners are Cathay Pacific Airways, Cititel Mid Valley Kuala Lumpur, Astro, Utusan Malaysia, Nanyang Siang Pau, China Press, KL Multimedia, PowerScreen and REDfm’s 104.9 and 988.
