A one-sided contest

ANY contest in Tanjong Datu was always likely to be a one-sided affair, given Barisan Nasional’s traditionally strong hold over the seat and all the machinery at its disposal.

But the circumstances surrounding this particular by-election, prompted as it was by the sudden death of the highly-regarded chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem and Barisan fielding his widow Puan Sri Jamilah Anu, have made it even more difficult for challengers to try to wrest the seat.
