Shades of the foolhardy

Folk of Kampung Sungai Udang Besar do not wear helmets and ride their motorcycles with umbrellas fixed to the handlebars. – ASRI ABDUL GHANI/ The Star

I WAS visiting Kampung Sungai Udang Besar, a fishing village about 20km drive from the Jawi toll plaza, when something caught my eye. No, not the big fish or prawns.

It was the village women. They were riding motorcycles up and down the only main road of this hamlet and all of them had an umbrella attached to their motorcycle handlebars. And they were not wearing any helmets.
