Too many holidays

Selangor players jubilant after winning the Malaysia Cup final at the Shah Alam Stadium. — filepic

I AM not going to be popular with workers and unionists this week. I think it is absurd for the Selangor state government to declare Monday a state holiday just because its football team won the Malaysia Cup.

I am quite embarrassed as to how the powers-that-be justified the decision. How can the holiday be a mark of appreciation for the team’s success? Why not just give the team a donation?
