Prudential Assurance Malaysia Bhd (PAMB), the official insurance partner of the 29th SEA Games and 9th Asean Para Games, organised the “Hold on to Your Dreams” workshop as part of its Proud Supporter of Dreams campaign.
The workshop was to encourage and support the children of Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK) to dream big, stay focused on their ambitions and have the confidence to achieve their desired dreams.
The workshop featured fun, educational and inspirational activities, but the main attraction was national Paralympian archer Hasihin Sanawi, who joined the workshop to share his inspiring journey.
Hasihin’s life changed forever when a fall at the age of 20 resulted in paralysis for the rest of his life.
Confirmation by the doctor felt like a life sentence and never did he imagine in his darkest days that he would one day be a national athlete.
Now looking back, he is able to smile. Fighting hard against the circumstances, Hasihin channelled despair into strength as he focused on overcoming his depression.
“It was the darkest days of my life. I didn’t know what I was going to do with the rest of my life and I didn’t see the point of anything,” he said.
“My family and friends were my support as they encouraged me to find meaning beyond my paralysis.
“I was one of the lucky ones as I had the guidance and motivation from my doctor and parents to find something that would bring meaning to my life. My doctor encouraged me to pick up a sport and the rest was history,” Hasihin added.
The YCK children were inspired by Hasihin’s touching story as he talked about how he conquered the obstacles to become a silver medallist in the 2012 Paralympic Games.
He said his focus and belief in himself was his motivation and he encouraged the children to belief that they had the ability to rise above any circumstances.
As part of his efforts to share his encouragement with others, Hasihin is featured in Prudential’s KL 2017 brand film that gets to the core of overcoming barriers and celebrating perseverance to achieve our dreams.
