THE Malaysia Entrepreneurs’ Development Association (PUMM) is organising a golf competition to raise funds to buy its own building.

Called the PUMM Pesta Ang Pow Golf Tournament, it will tee off today at the Mines Resort & Golf Club.

The inaugural event has the full support of PUMM founder Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, who is also the venue owner.

Lee is the main sponsor for the tournament, which has drawn some 100 participants.

“This is going to be a tough and challenging year for the business fraternity.

“I urge all parties to work closely together to bring about more economic growth so that the country can continue to enjoy prosperity,” said Lee in a press conference at a restaurant in Seri Kembangan.

Also present were PUMM president Datuk Tony Looi, deputy president and event organising chairman Datuk Seiko Chew, secretary-general Nelson Beh Chuen Hau, deputy organising chairman Jerry Ching and central committee member Jaden Teoh.

Lee said he was proud of the efforts by the current PUMM leadership to look after the welfare of members and to maintain strong ties with other countries such as China and Taiwan.

“This tournament can be used as a platform to enhance networking and boost opportunities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chew said golfers who hit a hole-in-one stand a chance to win two cars – a new Hyundai Ioniq and an antique Rolls Royce.

He said participants would get a special rate playing at the renowned golf course which had won numerous awards.

“In addition, each participant will receive a goodie bag worth RM500 which include a T-shirt, golf balls and towels, upon registration,” he said.

Chew said proceeds from the event would go towards the building fund, which had netted RM1mil so far.

Presently, the PUMM is renting a shoplot in Puchong.

Chew said several other events including a charity run were in the pipeline to raise more funds for the purchase of a three-storey building.

Among the sponsors for the golf tournament were Autoworld Sdn Bhd, Evanda, Transview, TOA, Samchem Holdings Berhad, Tune Insurance, KDK, Acson, EZ9 and Johnnie Walker.

PUMM was set up in 1993. It has some 1,200 members nationwide.
