THE Chinese New Year spirit is shining in Bukit Mertajam town on the Penang mainland, thanks to 4,500 lanterns that adorn many of the streets.

Padang Lalang assemblyman Chong Eng said she contributed some of the lanterns along with Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, Machang Bubok assemblyman Lee Khai Loon, several local organisations and traders.
