RELISH the perfect marriage between food and wine at The Wine Shop’s two outlets in Pulau Tikus and Bayan Lepas (Olive Residency beside Olive Tree Hotel) in Penang.

Savour every bite and sip at the four-course wine pairing dinner, with each pairing interacting and accentuating the best of each other.

The dinner starts with lighter and delicately flavoured wine and food before ending with bolder and more intense tastes.

The salmon carpaccio gets the meal off on a fresh and delicious note. It is sprinkled with crouton, almond, pepper and truffle vinaigrette.

This wonderfully light appetiser is best paired with chilled white wines with the Brown Brothers 1889 Chardonnay an ideal option in this case.

Golden coloured in the glass tinged with a youthful green hue, it has lovely aromas of melon and pear. This wine is crisp and vibrant with fresh stone fruit flavours.

Balanced oak handling adds an interesting nutty character to the wine.

The home-made mushroom soup with scallions, pepper, truffle oil and garlic toast goes well with a glass of AOP Cotes de Provence Domaine de Pontfract Rose 2015.

The wine has a lovely fresh berry and creamy spice note.

The main course is a choice of pan-seared chicken thigh with boiled vegetables, pommes puree and peri-peri sauce or soy-braised German pork with cilantro salad and potato balls.

The chicken option is delicious with its fragrantly seared poultry and chilli-based sauce to invigorate taste buds while the pork dish is a sinful indulgence of fatty layers of meat that practically melts in your mouth.

To complement the main dish is Motto Unabashed Zinfandel 2014, which explodes with bright racy fruit aromas of plum, cranberry and marionberry.

Beyond the fruits are notes of soft leather. The palate reveals flavours of chocolate covered raspberries with a hint of spice.

Lastly, dessert is vanilla ice cream with adzuki bean, matcha anglaise and palm sugar syrup paired with Brown Brothers 1889 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Rich crimson in colour, the elegant wine displays aromas of redcurrant, dried herbs and some earthy undertones.

The wine pairing dinner is priced at RM180++ per pax with a minimum of four persons and one day advanced booking.

The Wine Shop (dining area) is open from noon to 1am while the retail for the Pulau Tikus outlet starts at 9am and for Bayan Lepas, it starts at 10am. Both shops are closed on Sundays.
