Expensive fire and safety lesson for homestay owner


MIRI: The management of a shoplot-turned-homestay here was fined by the court nearly RM10,000 for flouting fire and safety regulations.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department charged the manager of the three-storey building in court for committing multiple safety breaches, including failure to provide facilities such as standby water-pump and waterhose. It also failed to comply with the department’s fire-escape requirements.
