MELAKA: The younger generation may not know that the motorsport race track, Sepang International Circuit in Sepang, Selangor, was initially proposed to be built in Langkawi, Kedah, said Universiti TeknikalMalaysia Melaka (UTeM) board of directors chairman Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali.

Ahmad Tajuddin, who was then Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) executive chairman, said the circuit was officially opened by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on March 9, 1999, but is unsure why the original proposal was not implemented.
