GET ready for a nostalgic night at the movies as the cast of That’s Entertainment transports theatre lovers back to the 1920s.

From the iconic sounds of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to music legends such as Elvis Presley and P. Ramlee right up to modern tunes from the present era, music lovers are in for a treat as musical theatre company Pan Productions brings together all the big hits on one stage from Aug 16 to 20.

“We are very excited to present this to the public as the songs chosen will definitely appeal to people of all ages,” said Pan Productions artistic director and co-founder Nell Ng.

With 48 songs to fill out the two-and-a-half hours, the musical will also feature Malay, Chinese, Hindi and English songs in the spirit of National Day and Malaysia Day.

Disney will be represented by songs ranging from movies such as Snow White right up to Moana. Another medley to look out for are the theme songs from several James Bond movies including From Russia With Love and Spectre.

“This is literally going to be like a live concert and to make the experience even more interesting, there will be a multimedia production alongside,” Ng said.

There are only 12 cast members ranging from 20 to 50 years old and a five-piece band, selected based on their powerful vocals and versatility via auditions.

Among them are Dina Nadzir and Nikki Palikat, both Malaysian Idol contestants from the first season in 2004.

“We have been undergoing intense rehearsals and I will be dancing and singing in this show,” said Dina.

Nikki will perform Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend by Marilyn Monroe.

“This song has been covered so many times by singers like Christina Aguilera in Burlesque and Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge, so I will try to bring some of my own interpretation to it,” she said.

Joining her on stage is co-founder Peter Ong who will be singing a Fred Astaire song, Cheek to Cheek, from Top Hat.

“Through the costumes and props, we will try to recreate the black and white feel from the movie,” said Ong, who will be doing a Latin dance routine, too.

Another highlight is the period costumes, representing the era the songs were from.

“For my P. Ramlee song, you will be seeing me in pants as old as the song,” said co-founder Alizakri Alias.

“This is the seventh year for Pan Productions but our loyal followers and new audience members can expect a fresh perspective for this show,” he added.

Other cast members include Alesia Dhana, Caitlyn Tan, Callista Chuah, Ella Lucia Newton, Izen Kong, Joel Wong, Joshua Gui and Janet Lee with music director Shensation and choreographer Vivian Chan.

The shows start at 8.30pm with an extra 3pm show on the weekend at Pentas 2, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac).

Tickets are priced from RM98 and can be bought from Ticketpro.
