IF you have no martial arts skill and wish to pick up a few basic moves, then do take note.
Several world-class grandmasters will be giving pointers on self-defence for free in a series of martial arts workshops this month.
The lessons which start today until Aug 25 are jointly organised by the Penang Island of Martial Arts, Zhong Ding Traditional Martial Arts Association International and Malaysian Association of Grandmasters of Martial Arts (Magma) in collaboration with the Tourism and Culture Ministry (Penang office).
Magma (Malaysia) International liaison officer Nigel C. Sutton said the workshops were open to the public for free.
“These workshops will be conducted by world-class grandmasters.
“Some of the workshops consist of talks and question-and-answer sessions,” he said when contacted on Thursday.
Grandmaster Gao Jiwu from Beijing is scheduled to give his presentation on the ‘Fundamentals of Baguazhang’ from noon to 2pm at the Rainbow Paradise Beach Resort in Tanjung Bungah today.
Other free workshops are Baguazhang 64 hands from 4pm to 6pm tomorrow, applications of Baguazhang (10am to noon from Aug 14 to Aug 18), Xingyiquan Five Elements Linking Fist Form (8pm to 10pm from Aug 14 to Aug 18) and Zhan Zhuang and Baguazhang (2pm to 4pm on Aug 19).
All the workshops will be held at Flamingo Hotel by the Beach in Tanjung Bungah, Penang.
Sutton said a gala dinner and awards ceremony would also be held at the Rainbow Paradise Beach Resort for invited guests from 7pm to 10pm today.
“We will be presenting 90 awards to more than 70 grandmasters, masters, teachers and instructors of martial arts at the dinner.
“The recipients include Malaysians and foreigners,” he said.
