KUCHING: The second Asia-Pacific Hash, the world’s third largest hash event, will take place in the city next year from July 6 to 8.
About 1,400 hash runners worldwide have already registered for the event and organising committee Kuching City Hash is expecting between 2,500 and 3,000 participants next year.
“This international event will lure hashers from all over the world to Kuching.
“We have already registered around 1,400 participants through online registration, as well as through a series of promotions at local and overseas hash events,” said Kuching City Hash chairman Johnson Tan in a statement.
Yesterday, he led the organising committee to pay a courtesy call on state Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to brief on the preparation progress and overall programmes lined up for the second Asia-Pacific Hash.
Also part of the delegation was state legal counsel Datuk JC Fong.
“Since Kuching City Hash successfully hosted the Pan Asia Hash in 2005, it is time for us to organise another international hash event,” Tan added.
He said next year’s event, to be held in conjunction with the club’s 30th anniversary, would collaborate with the 2018 Sarawak World Music Festival that is scheduled to take place the following week.
This would help to promote tourism in the state, he continued.
Tan expressed gratitude about the strong support by the state government and other sponsors in organising the international hash event.
