Programme reaches out to needy schoolkids

Donors could either drop off the school necessities themselves at participating Petronas stations or have them picked up by Grab drivers-partners.

PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (PDB) and Grab Malaysia held a joint corporate social responsibility programme, Delivering Happyness.

The programme invited the public to donate school necessities such as books, bags and stationery for underprivileged children in Malaysia.

Some donors took part in the programme by using the Grab application, selecting the #DeliveringHappyness icon, which was live from 10am to 6pm during the campaign period, and keyed in their pick-up location.

One hundred designated Grab drivers-partners were on standby to collect the items and deliver them to the collection centres at 20 participating Petronas stations nationwide. Passengers were not charged for this booking service.

PDB managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus said they were excited about the initiative to provide children with access to basic educational tools and to support their learning process.

“We believe there are many among us who wish to do charity but may sometimes be hindered by lack of time and resources.

“Through this programme, we are making it more convenient for the public to contribute to the needy as their donations will be picked up at their doorstep,” he said.

Items that were needed included educational and activity books, writing and colouring materials, pencil cases and schoolbags – as long as they were new or in good condition.

As a token of appreciation, every donor who made the Delivering Happyness booking received a special Petronas Hari Raya Edition voucher which can be utilised at any of the 20 participating Petronas stations. The limited vouchers were given out on a first-come-first-served basis.

At the end of the programme, the collection was handed over to orphanages and welfare homes in the Klang Valley as well as major cities in 11 states.

Grab Malaysia country head Sean Goh said this was the company’s third time carrying out the programme and each occasion was just as meaningful.

“However, this time, we are pleased to be able to include our partner Petronas, who has been instrumental in helping us add value to our driver-partners, and now, to jointly give back to society together with the support of our drivers, passengers and customers.
