KUANTAN: While waiting to break fast during Ramadan, why not read a book.

That is the habit the Pahang Public Library (PPAP) seeks to inculcate in the locals here with their “Buka Buku, Buka Puasa” programme at Padang MPK 1 here.

The one-day programme saw staff from the public library distribute 300 books and magazines to locals who were waiting to break their fast at the field at 6.30pm.

The field is a popular spot for locals to break their fast as it is beside a Ramadan bazaar and directly across a small lane from a mosque.

“We want to inculcate the habit of reading in people,” said PPAP director Faridzah Jaafar.

“By distributing books while people are waiting to break fast, we hope they will learn to read during their free time,” she said.

The library staff also prepared 400 bowls of bubur lambuk to distribute to passers-by and those who were waiting to break fast.

Faridzah said this was the second time they were organising the programme at the field.

“We see many more people joining our programmes now,” she said.

The programme was a collaboration with Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara Kuantan which had also prepared bubur lambuk for distribution.
