Seminar to help boost brain development

A brain fitness training seminar will be held on June 18 at Menara Star, Petaling Jaya.

CALLING parents with young children. Do you want to learn how to nurture your child’s brain the right way and boost their attention and focus?

If you do, make sure to attend a brain fitness training seminar that will be held next month at the Cybertorium in Menara Star, Petaling Jaya.

The seminar will be conducted by BrainFit Group Pte Ltd founder Cheryl Chia, a paediatric physiotherapist with more than 20 years of experience in brain fitness training.

“Brain fitness refers to cognitive skills such as memory, attention and thinking speed.

“The concept of brain fitness is quite similar to physical fitness. In the same way that we go to a gym to improve our muscle strength, flexibility or stamina, we are also able to exercise our mental ‘muscles’ to improve memory, attention as well as thinking and reasoning abilities,” said Chia.

She explained that children with stronger mental capabilities would be able to better enjoy the process of learning.

The seminar will offer parents insights on how they can give their child a brighter head start with the right development.

“Parents will learn more about their child’s unique capabilities as well as their strengths and weaknesses.

“They will be able to better understand their child’s behaviour and know how to nurture them to their best potential,” she said.
Among the key features of BrainFit’s programmes, said Chia, were the unique whole brain training methodology targeting all five brain networks — vision, auditory, sensory-motor, focus and emotional processing.

The seminar will be divided into two sessions — one for parents of babies and toddlers (newborns to age four) and another for those with school-going children (five to 16 years old).

Chia will give a presentation on how the brain works and provide parents with practical research-based parenting strategies.

Parents who attend the session for toddlers will learn about the areas of play that can impact their child’s brain development and understand how they can boost their child’s overall growth and development.

Those who attend the session for school-going children will learn about research-based parenting strategies to improve their child’s focus and attention span.

The seminar will be held on June 18 at 10.30am for toddlers and 2.30pm for schoolgoing children.

Each session, which will last two and half hours, costs RM10 per person or RM15 per couple.
