A DROP in ticket sales for Zoo Negara Malaysia has prompted the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) to step up and fill the gap in revenue with the idea of a night market.
MPAJ president Abdul Hamid Hussain discussed with councillors this idea for the zoo for the zoo during the fullboard meeting today (May 26).
“They suggested renting out the parking lot after hours from 6pm to midnight as a potential night bazaar for easy-to-maintain businesses like food trucks and dry goods such as clothes," he said.
“The number of traders and the businesses allowed will be under their purview, and their target is to start by June as part of the Ramadan bazaar for Hari Raya preparations.
“If the market is sustainable we will look at keeping if for the long term,” Abdul Hamid added.
However discussions will continue with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), which oversees the zoo.
Meanwhile, as the season approaches for the Ramadan Bazaar, there will be 1,429 slotted in 22 locations in the municipality from May 27 to June 24.
Despite popular demand in previous years for Ramadan bazaar lots, only 81% of the 1,758 lots offered in 23 areas were booked, leaving 329 still available.
